Eventiada IPRA Golden World Awards-2018

On behalf of organization committee we would like to inform you about entry opening of Eventiada IPRA Golden World Awards-2018, the largest Eastern European communications award, regional partner of the IPRA GWA award, a global competition held since 1990 by the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).

The entries are open for projects, completed between September 1, 2017, and October 1, 2018, in Russia, CIS and Europe. The entries are submitted in Russian or English at

This year, projects in all categories will be reviewed and judged by the international jury. In addition, Grand Prix - the highest award - will be given for the first time this year, as well as personal awards in various categories.

The organizers are ready to consider the possibility of your representative's participation as one of the members of the jury, as well as placing your logo among partners of the award.

How to save the reputation of a brand in case of PR-scandal

JetBlue airlines makes up for a massive inconvenience

Back in 2007, a major ice storm on the East Coast led to JetBlue cancelling more than 1,000 flights over the course of five days. As you can imagine, airline travelers were livid. That's when CEO David Neeleman (he is no longer CEO of JetBlue) took action: Instead of blaming the weather and issuing a robotic, formulaic response, Neeleman wrote an apology letter to JetBlue customers and introduced a new customer’s “Bill of rights”.

He also included monetary compensation for the missed flights, and presented a list of action items the company would take to help affected passengers. Though the backlash was still fairly severe, Neeleman was up-front about the company’s mistakes. He acknowledged the massive inconveniences his customers were facing. And he told them, outright, what he was going to do to make things right.

The ICCO Global Awards showcase the most impactful PR works from the world’s most talented practitioners, purely based on effectiveness, measurement, and results.

This is an annual awards programme, recognised by PR trade associations representing 55 countries worldwide. Entries from across the world are judged by an elite panel of top international PR practitioners and industry experts. The panel will consider the excellence and effectiveness of all the work submitted.

The deadline for early bird entries is Friday, 2nd November, 2018.

How to save the reputation of a brand in case of PR-scandal

Recently Facebook has experienced the biggest scandal in its history, connected with data leakage of millions of users. However, the head of the company Mark Zuckerberg managed to deal with the problem: he gave explanations of the situation to the US Senate, and investors believed him, so the value of Facebook shares rose again.

Here are some more examples of how executives of large companies coped with PR-scandals.

Adidas recovers from a bad subject line

In a 2017 marketing campaign, Adidas sent a promotional email to Boston Marathon participants with the subject line, “Congrats, you survived the Boston Marathon!” oblivious to the potential connotation linking that message to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.

Adidas spokeswoman Maria Culp immediately recognized the error after a few customers pointed it out, publicly stating, “We are incredibly sorry. There was no thought given to the insensitive email subject line we sent Tuesday. We deeply apologize for our mistake.” Her response was heartfelt, apologetic, straightforward and, most importantly, immediate which may have prevented an even bigger PR disaster.

Virgin Galactic recovers from a deadly crash

In 2014, when Virgin Galactic attempted a manned test of a space tourism craft in the Mojave Desert, an anomaly resulted in a terrible crash. One pilot was killed and another one was injured. CEO Richard Branson, immediately upon learning of the tragedy, wrote a brief message about his personal grief even as he prepared for an in-person flight to visit the crash site to meet with the people involved.

He later wrote an extended post on the matter, expressing his shock, explaining the situation and resolving to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Branson’s human side shone through here; his response was immediate and passionate. He dropped whatever he was doing to visit the site and manage his company's response in person; he also filled customers in about the details as soon as he could.

WCFA Poll – GlobComs 2018 – Examining the Future of Communication

World Communication Forum Association (WCFA), the global non-profit organization consisting of professional communicators from Europe, Asia and Latin America, launches its next annual Poll dedicated to today’s Global Communications. Among other questions and key tasks, challenges and perspectives of modern communication are to be discussed, with data collected and processed for due conclusions:

Official partner of the Poll is the EU Business School in Geneva ( WCFA is interested in seasoned or young professional communicators’ contribution and similar-area-experts' participation, but also: in attracting the upcoming generations as respondents – students in PR and communication, with the aim to collect sufficient and relevant data. The results will be processed and shared among the WCFA’s global community. There will be a presentation with the collected data, at WCF-Global, 21 March, Geneva:

The New Program Board for WCF 2018 Has Been Announced

The World Communication Forum’s Program Board for 2018 has been formed. For the next calendar year, the WCF will be led by 27 communication professionals representing 20 countries all over the world: Armenia, Russia, India, South Africa, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria, China, Egypt, Turkey, the USA, Brazil, Poland, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Canada, UK, and Holland.

In the nearest future, several significant for the communication industry events have already been scheduled by the Board, among others – the WCFA USA Trip, in cooperation with the PR Museum in New York, some regional communication forums, webinars, and the next annual WCF “Communication on Top”.

Tatevik Pirumyan, Executive Director of Armenian Public Relations Association (APRA) is also among the members of the new WCF Committee.

ICCO Global Summit 2017

In 2017 ICCO (International Communications Consultancy Organisation) Global Summit will take place at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, Finland on 5th-6th October, hosted by Finnish association of Marketing, Technology and Creativity (MTL).
